Clicky bits: Franco returns (again) to 'General Hospital'!

• "General Hospital" fans may know their soap is on the bubble when it comes to cancellation, but at least one person is willing to invest in the nearly 50-year old soap's long-term viability: James Franco.

According to TVGuide.com, the busiest actor in showbiz has carved out some significant space on his schedule to appear on the soap for a fourth time. He first appeared in 2009 as Robert "Franco" Frank, a serial killer and performance artist; his last appearance was just before (and after) the Academy Awards ceremony in February, which he co-hosted with Anne Hathaway.

He'll have to pull off another neat trick if he's to make this go-around work -- not only is Franco still taking college courses in New York, but he'll also be on Broadway in the fall with Nicole Kidman in "Sweet Bird of Youth." "GH," meanwhile, is filmed in California. Time to rack up those frequent-flyer miles!

• In other soap news, Showbiz411.com is reporting that Prospect Park Productions, the company that will eventually import fellow ABC soaps "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" to the Web, is also poised to snag "GH" from ABC after the show's contract ends in about a year. The site also reports that the transition of "AMC" and "OLTL" is not likely to be seamless: There may be several weeks or months after each ends on ABC before they start airing new Webisodes. "AMC" last airs on September 26; "OLTL's" run ends on January 20, 2012.
