After giving one awkward and intense interview on TODAY Monday morning, Gene Simmons and his (at least for now) partner Shannon Tweed took to their Twitter accounts to voice their post interview perspectives. The pair then followed that up with a spot on Joy Behar’s “HLN” — complete with a mid-interview walk-out by Tweed — and a Tuesday morning stop by “Fox & Friends.”
TODAY's Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb talk about their interview with Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed.
So the question is, with the new season of “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” set to premiere Tuesday night on A&E, is all of this relationship drama a reflection of what’s really happening between the couple or just an effort to drum up viewers? That’s what TODAY hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb asked this morning.
“Well, we didn’t know what to think.” Gifford said. “First we thought, they’re here to promote the series so they're playing with us. Because that has happened on this show. People know how to make news to get attention for their projects. But then in the course of (the interview), it was like a roller coaster wasn’t it? We thought, ‘Uh-oh, they’re playing with us.’ Then we thought ‘Oh my gosh, this is for real! We still don’t know.”
Kotb agreed at first, but found one hint leading her to believe the couple’s on-air crash and burn was the real deal.
“You sometimes know they’re playing with you, because off-camera before it’s time for them to go on, you see a certain rapport and then they come on and they start playing this game,” she said. “But (Gene and Shannon) had that icy rapport throughout, I thought.”
