After sharing some congratulatory smooches on the “American Idol” finale and with their continued easy-to-see chemistry, it’s not hard to understand why winner Scotty McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alaina still face questions about their relationship despite romance denials.

During a Tuesday morning visit to TODAY, both rising stars addressed the rumors.
When host Meredith Vieira asked the teens if there was “a little something-something” between them, the pair responded with a matching round of “friendship.”
Alaina went on to explain that she and McCreery are, in fact, the closest of friends.
“We’re BFFs,” she said as she put a hand on her pal’s leg.

Heck, that affectionate gesture might just be enough to spark a new series of romance rumors from fans still hoping to see the country crooners become a couple. If that didn’t do it, the duet they followed up the interview just might.
Reprising the song they performed together during their “Idol” days, McCreery and Alaina swapped lyrics on Randy Travis’ love ballad “I Told You So” as part of TODAY's Toyota Concert Series.
McCreery also took the stage solo and maintained the theme. He performed his debut single, “I Love You This Big.’
