Hoover sides with soap opera fans

Fans of "One Life to Live" and "All My Children" aren't the only ones upset at ABC for canceling the two long-running soaps. Advertiser Hoover is siding squarely with the viewers.

"I want you to know from me personally that we hear you loud and clear. ... We were and are as disappointed with this news as you are," Brian Kirkendall, the company's vice president of marketing, wrote on Facebook.

But Hoover is doing more than just voicing its displeasure at the network -- it's pulling its advertising from ABC starting this Friday, according to the Facebook note. Not only that, the company wants to make sure fans of "AMC" and "OLTL" are heard by the network and has set up a special e-mail address to spread the word. "Please, send your e-mails to SaveTheSoaps@Hoover.com, and we'll get every, single last one of them to ABC," wrote Kirkendall.

This will no doubt earn Hoover a few more fans on Facebook, but will the campaign do anything to bring the two shows back? After all, the company is pulling its ads from ABC at a time when soaps are already losing money.
