There are some overnight success stories who let fame go to their head. And then there's Susan Boyle.
As Boyle told TODAY's Amy Robach, the attention and sudden wealth that has come her way since she appeared on "Britain's Got Talent" in 2009 hasn't really changed her much. She bought a big home down the street from the one she grew up in (in a "quaint" part of Scotland, according to Robach) -- and set out a welcome mat that reads "The Posh House." But more often than not, she can still be found in the house she grew up in.
NBC's Amy Robach sits down with singer Susan Boyle, who talks about her new life after she wowed the world on "Britain's Got Talent."
"The big house down the street isn't really me," she said. "I'm not the type of person to live in a big mansion." When she goes back to her original home, Boyle -- who has sold 15 million albums around the world -- says she's in her "comfort zone."
Boyle has never spent a whole night in her new house.
Besides, the old home has her treasured Donny Osmond blanket, which was given to her by a fan. She showed it to Robach, laughing, "Now, that's what I call a he-man!"
While Boyle, who is recognized in the grocery store when she does her own shopping, is a favorite face around town, she seems relatively shy about entering the dating scene.
"I would be guarded in that area," she said. "With teeth like mine, you're kidding!"
She has spiffed up a fair bit since her original appearance on TV, though; Boyle's hair is now straightened and lighter, and she's taken to wearing light makeup and less dowdy clothing. When she looks at herself in that first audition, she says, "It was like a doily with legs."
Today, though, things are both different ... and the same. "It was obvious in my audition that I lacked confidence. Look at me (now)," she says. "There's a complete contrast. It's a good one."
Boyle will appear on TODAY on Nov. 2 to perform a song from her new album, "Someone to Watch Over Me," which will be released the day before.
