Are spanks appropriate on "Dancing With the Stars"? The judges didn't seem to think so after viewing rehearsal footage of pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy getting handy with partner Brandy.
Past episodes revealed rehearsal tensions between the Ukrainian dance champ and the R&B singer, with Brandy often appearing to be the instigator. Monday night's show revealed a different dynamic in their relationship. While teaching his charge the secret to a sexy samba, Chmerkovskiy, who's been known to lock horns with a few partners in the past, used a quick spank here and there to get his point across.
Len Goodman, the ballroom's elder statesman, seemed particularly displeased with Chmerkovskiy's shenanigans. During his post-dance analysis, Goodman focused more on bad rehearsal behavior, such as "slapping her on the ass," than the moves that actually made it to the dance floor. He clearly did not approve.
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba also made mention of the pro's behavior, and offered a slap of her own, but after stating that she didn't "condone that kind of teaching," she then admitted that Brandy's improved steps proved "it worked."
As for Brandy, she was either absolutely fine with the backside smacks or she was suffering from a type of dance-induced Stockholm Syndrome. When given the opportunity to defend her pro, she smiled and said "Maks is great," swats and all.
